A truly fascinating North American native flowering tree, the Black Pearl Redbud is a remarkable standout from other purple-leaved redbud cultivars in that its shiny, deep blackberry-purple leaves are so dark they almost appear black. A spectacular show of brilliant lavender-purple pea-like leaves cover the bare branches in spring before the new leaves emerge. An eye-catching specimen tree for use around the home or in sunny to partially shaded landscape or woodland borders.
Growing 15 to 20 feet tall and wide, the Black Pearl Redbud tree is ideal for use as a focal specimen or in groupings in sunny to partially shaded landscape or woodland borders. Also nice to mark each side of an entryway and to provide beauty and some shade around patios, porches and other outdoor living spaces. Excellent planted among azaleas in woodland borders. For eye-pleasing contrast, under plant with a lighter color ground cover or low shrub. A fine addition to purple or black theme gardens.
The Black Pearl Redbud tree is very easy to grow in most any average, moist but well-drained soil and full or part sun. It is very drought tolerant when established. Standing water or constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic.
Fragrant Foliage: No
Resistances: Disease, Heat, Insect, Drought
