It's hard to decide which is more striking, the flowers or the foliage of this dark beauty. Also known as False Sunflower, this new heliopsis bears big daisylike blooms of red-orange neatly set off by dramatic black centers. The foliage garners as much, if not more, attention with its unusual, deep purple hue. This vigorous plant is easy to grow and dependably drought tolerant, once established. The flowers sit atop sturdy, compact stems that keep them upright in the garden or vase. Customers will be amazed at the color and beauty Fire Twister bestows on borders, pots and beds. Suggest it for full sun to partly shaded sites where the plants can naturalize freely and lure tons of charming butterflies to the landscape
Feed yearly with an organic fertilizer. Deadhead to prolong bloom. Prune in late winter before flush and trim back in late May to encourage full plants.
