Lavender is a popular addition to mixed borders, because it has such a long season. With Imperial Gem, your display will benefit from fragrant purple flowers starting in late spring going all the way into fall. The silvery foliage will last even through winter, matching your holiday decorations and keeping year-round color in your landscape. You can depend on that, too, because it's easy to grow, sturdy and reliable—even in drought—and a fantastic perennializer. So year in, year out, Imperial Gem will be the carefree constant in your garden. That love of full sun and tolerance to drought-prone soil means it'll go well in a sunny rock garden. Its habit is dense and compact, growing only about 20-24" tall, so it also makes a nice long-term focal point in a container. While butterflies and other pollinators love it in the garden, you could also take some flowers indoors for perfumed fresh-cut and dried-flower bouquets. Deer will eat anything in a pinch, but they don't like the fragrant foliage on Imperial Gem. Lavandula angustifolia 'Imperial Gem'
